The Forgiveness Spread
Forgiveness is one of the most misunderstood spiritual practices. It is not the same as excusing, forgetting, or reconciling. It is the release of the energetic burden that resentment places on the one who carries it. This seven-card spread works with the specific dynamics of forgiveness — what happened, how you have been affected, what the other person may have been carrying, where forgiveness is genuinely blocked, the cost of continuing to carry this resentment, what forgiveness would free in you specifically, and the act or practice of release that is most available to you.
Step 1: Instructions
Use when resentment toward a specific person, institution, or even yourself has become heavy enough to affect your daily wellbeing, your sleep, or your ability to be present in your other relationships. This spread works equally for forgiving others and for self-forgiveness. Both are equally necessary and equally difficult.
Step 2: Card Positions
- #1What happened and its impact on you
- #2How you have been affected at the deepest level
- #3What the other person may have been carrying
- #4Where forgiveness is genuinely blocked in you
- #5The cost of continuing to carry this resentment
- #6What forgiveness would specifically free in you
- #7The act or practice of release most available to you
Step 3: Interpretation Advice
If position three draws a compassionate card — something like the Six of Swords, the Star, or the Hermit — it often signals that the person you need to forgive was themselves acting from their own wounds. That recognition does not excuse the harm but it opens the door to understanding. Position seven (the release practice) is an invitation, not a prescription.
